CfP ‘University teaching and professional development on environmental assessment’

2025-01-19

Environmental assessments are key instruments for sustainable planning and decision making in many areas, from infrastructure to agricultural and industrial developments. At the same time, the context of environmental assessments is constantly changing due to new legal frameworks, technical innovations and changing social requirements. In this context, the question increasingly arises as to how we need to further develop university teaching and continuing professional development in environmental assessment in order to prepare specialists for the challenges of the future.

University education provides the basis for a sound and scientifically based approach to environmental assessment. But how can curricula and degree programmes be designed to integrate the latest scientific findings, legal developments and practical challenges? What skills are needed to meet the dynamic requirements of a digitised and globalised world?

At the same time, continuing professional development is playing an increasingly important role, especially for professionals who are already in employment and want to deepen their knowledge of environmental assessment or keep it up to date. How can professional development programmes be designed in such a way that they cover both theoretical and practical requirements and enable a practice-oriented, interdisciplinary approach to the topic?

With the special issue of the UVP-report, we would like to analyse the current developments and perspectives of university teaching and professional training on environmental assessment. We invite you to share your experiences, research findings and opinions on topics including:

  • Integrating environmental assessment into university programmes: teaching methods, curricula and interdisciplinary approaches,
  • Continuing professional education on environmental assessment: Requirements, formats and best practice examples,
  • Digitalisation and new technologies in teaching and continuing education: How can digital tools and e-learning formats improve environmental assessment training?
  • Practical orientation and international perspectives: How can teaching be linked to specific case studies and international experience?
  • Future prospects for specialist qualifications: What skills will be expected of environmental assessment specialists in the coming years?
  • Co-operation between universities and practice: Approaches for a better integration of theory and practice in environmental assessment.
